Performing Arts
The living arts are alive and well in Sarasota, as the area has an overabundance of terrific venues and performance groups to see live performing arts events. At the Florida State University Center for the Performing Arts, you'll find the Asolo Theatre Company, an accomplished professional theatrical organization that performs mostly at the Harold E. and Esther M. Mertz Theatre on the grounds of FSU's Performing Arts complex off North Tamiami Trail. The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall is a well-known, spectacular entertainment facility to take in a variety of great performances. Orchestras, broadway productions, ballet companies, top headliners such as Bill Cosby and Wynton Marsalis, perform regularly at the 1,736-seat Hall. Entertaining Off Broadway shows can be seen via the Florida Studio Theatre on North Palm Avenue, Golden Apple Dinner Theatre on North Pineapple Avenue which has been putting on entertaining performances in Sarasota since 1971, and The Players Theatre off of North Tamiami Trail, all located within the Downtown sector of Sarasota. Right outside of Sarasota, in the town of Englewood, is the quaint Lemon Bay Playhouse, which puts on a few choice productions year in, year out. Care to
be awed by a fine classical presentation? Then we
encourage you to see our very
own
Sarasota Orchestra (the New Florida West Coast Symphony) and Sarasota
Pops Orchestras in
action.
Ballet
aficionados are also in for a treat, when the Sarasota Ballet of
Florida graces the stage every September through April.
The high-flying and acrobatic acts of Circus Sarasota are definitely worth the reasonable price of admission. If you're looking for more of a pop culture performance, however, find out who's appearing next at the Ford Amphitheatre and St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. There, you can see performances by such greats as Elton John and Celine Dion. You are welcome to click on the images for more information about each organization. Make sure to check out our Events Calendar Page to see what's happening around the Sarasota area in the coming months. As
you can see,
the performing arts possibilities are endless in
Sarasota Florida!
