Museums
Sarasota Florida and its surrounding communities offer a dazzling array of museums for you to explore. For art aficionados, there's of course the ever-popular John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, located on an amazing 66-acre estate on Sarasota Bay. Permanent collections featuring European, American and Asian works are always on display at the Ringling Museum. Exhibitions from world-renowned artists along with cultural and educational programs take place regularly as well. The Selby Gallery at the Ringling College of Art + Design displays tremendous works of art from its students and graduates, as well as featured professional artists. The Museum of Asian Art is a great place to see imported art representing many of the Pan Asian countries. If you're a car buff, then we encourage you to put it in high gear and visit the Sarasota Classic Car Museum on North Tamiami Trail to see a dynamic display of automobiles from yesteryear. First opened to the public in 1953, the Sarasota Classic Car Museum features a collection of over 100 vintage automobiles, including the DeLorean, Edsel, and even John Lennon's Mercedes Roadster. Those into the sciences will be wowed and awed about what they see at the G.Wiz Science Museum on the grounds of the Blivas Science and Technology Center. There's always a traveling exhibition taking place at the G.Wiz, such as "Dinosaurs," "Ice Age Florida," Tutankamun," and their current offering "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition." Outside of town, we suggest visiting the Tampa Museum of Art at it's temporary home on North Howard Avenue in Tampa. A rendition of what the new and drastically improved Tampa Museum of Art will look like is next to their information below. In Pinellas County, there's the peculiar but interesting Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. Various unusual pieces of art by the Spanish surrealist are on display for your examination.
